SCHOOL CHOICE IN GEORGIA

THE EDUCATION LANDSCAPE IN GEORGIA

The Georgia Center for Opportunity has been involved in the school choice movement for more than a decade. In recent years, we helped to create and secure the passage of Georgia’s Special Needs Scholarships and Tuition Tax Credit programs. In 2012, our work was instrumental in getting the Georgia Charter School amendment passed.

Every child is different – which is why families should have a variety of options when deciding how to educate their children. The goal of school choice is to ensure families have quality educational options – including traditional public school, public charter school, private school (including tax credit and special needs scholarship participants), online education, homeschool, and hybrid school – that will help their children learn and grow.

Does your State Senator and Representative support giving your family more educational options? See if they make the grade in our 2019 Legislator Report Card.

EXPANDING SCHOOL CHOICE

In the 2022 Legislative Session, Georgia Legislators considered a bill that would have opened the door for ALL kids to have access to state funds for school. This plan would have been a vital first step in educational access in our state.
