Raising Highly Capable Kids FAQs

What is Raising Highly Capable Kids?

Raising Highly Capable Kids (RHCK) is an evidence-based workshop series designed to empower parents and caregivers with practical tools, strategies, and confidence to support their children’s healthy development. Grounded in the 40 Developmental Assets framework developed by the Search Institute, RHCK focuses on building the essential internal strengths and external supports that children and youth need to thrive—academically, socially, emotionally, and behaviorally.

Who runs the program?

The Raising Highly Capable Kids program—developed and owned by Rezilient Kidz—is brought to communities by the Georgia Center for Opportunity, which partners with schools, nonprofits, churches, and other local organizations to make it come alive. These community partners know and love their neighborhoods, and by collaborating with them, GCO helps deliver RHCK in ways that reflect each community’s unique culture, strengths, and needs.

Who can participate?

Raising Highly Capable Kids is open to all parents, guardians, and caregivers who want to strengthen their parenting skills and support their children’s growth and success. We welcome participants from all family structures, cultures, and communities. The more diverse the group, the richer the experience!

How can RHCK benefit my family?

Through Raising Highly Capable Kids, you’ll gain powerful, practical tools to guide your child’s development and strengthen your family from the inside out. This workshop doesn’t just teach parenting tips—it transforms the way you connect with your kids.

You’ll walk away with a deeper understanding of what children need to thrive, stronger communication at home, and the confidence to lead your family with purpose. Many parents say it’s one of the most encouraging and impactful experiences they’ve had.

How long is the workshop?

Typically there are 10 sessions, each lasting about 90 minutes. Sessions are usually held weekly, but the schedule can vary depending on the hosting organization, holidays, or school breaks.

What topics are covered in the workshops?

Each session focuses on different aspects of the 40 Developmental Assets. The 40 Developmental Assets are a set of research-based, positive supports and strengths that young people need to succeed. They are divided into external and internal assets. External assets include support, empowerment, boundaries and expectations, and constructive use of time. Internal assets include commitment to learning, positive values, social competencies, and positive identity.

How much does it cost?

There is no cost to participate! Workshops and materials are offered for free.

Is the workshop in-person or virtual?

The workshop is held in-person. Each fall and spring, we offer workshops in multiple locations to help families find a workshop that fits their needs and schedules.

See our workshop schedule here.

Are the workshops offered in other languages?

We offer workshops in English and Spanish.
