Is Your Student in One of
Georgia’s Failing Schools?

Georgia’s Failing Schools Is A Widespread Problem

The issue of failing schools is affecting all types of communities across our state. According to the state’s own assessment, at least 500,000 kids are limited to schools that are failing or underperforming, making it more important than ever to create education alternatives that will better prepare them for work, relationships, and the real world.

This interactive map allows you to zoom in on a specific county or school to see which schools have been ranked by Georgia’s Department of Education as having a D (yellow) or F (red) grade.

WHAT IS THE PROMISE SCHOLARSHIP?

Understanding Promise Scholarships in Georgia

In 2023, Georgia Senators passed Senate Bill 233 to create the Georgia Promise Scholarship program. This proposed program would give parents $6,500 to pay for the schooling option best suited to their child’s needs. While it was a big step for SB 233 to make it through the Senate, the bill did not pass the House of Representatives in 2023. It will be voted on again in 2024.

Solution for A BETTER EDUCATION

Every Child Able To Access Quality Education

We have long advocated for children to be able to access the education that best fits their needs. Each child and family is unique which means that each child learns in different ways. While most will find what they need in public schools, we must open up options to parents and kids seeking unique education options.

What Options Are Currently Available to Parents?

While the fight for quality access is far from over, there have been some victories that have opened up education choice in our state.

A Guide To Georgia's Education Options

A quick and easy guide to the policies and options available to parents and students in Georgia.

Tax Credit Scholarship

This program allows businesses and individuals to donate toward private school scholarships for K-12 students enrolled in public schools. The program is helping thousands of kids who otherwise could not afford private school, but it currently can’t keep up with parent demand. Georgia lawmakers need to increase the scholarship cap in order to serve more students.

Charter Schools

Georgia’s charter schools provide a publicly-funded school option to parents all across the state.

Special Needs Scholarship

Georgia parents have access to special funds to help kids with needs unable to be met by a traditional public school setting.

What Else Can Be Done?

Education Savings Accounts

With an education savings account, the state deposits public funds in a private account that parents use to purchase educational products and services for their child.

Public School Transfers

Allowing parents and students to access schools that meet their needs outside of their physical location will remove the strain on local schools and allow for kids to access unique learning opportunities.

Expand Tax Credit Scholarships

While Georgia’s Tax Credit Scholarship is helping thousands, many more of Georgia’s students could access new education options by expanding the scholarship dollars available to them.

What Georgia Parents Are Saying About Education Choice

“Our family fully supports both public and private schools. But one size does not fit all for every child or every family—and unfortunately, that means extra out-of-pocket costs for families who choose different paths to properly educate their children. Promise Scholarships would empower parents to do what they think is best for their children, whether it’s a family like mine that requires flexibility for a unique circumstance…or family that simply chooses a private school option. Our tax dollars should follow the child and meet the individual needs.”

“Our experience at the private school is night and day. I remember my daughter saying, ‘Mom, I don’t think I ever want to leave this school. Everyone here has a disability and it’s not a big deal.’”

“There are so many other families like mine in Burke County. We basically have no school choice here, as the only private schools around do not have special educators or services and our closest charter school is 35 minutes away. Home education is our best option so that we can tailor an education to the unique needs of our children. Promise Scholarships would provide the type of resources to ensure that our children are not left behind.”

“Our adopted son, Joshua, has been in upwards of 20 schools during his educational journey. Joshua suffers from dyslexia and dysgraphia. The solution we need is the \Promise Scholarship, but we’re losing more and more time as the years pass but the bill doesn’t. Joshua is a smart, bright child, but he can’t advance the way he needs to right now because he doesn’t have the necessary resources.”
